2026 Forum on Buddhist Meditation:
Practice and Theory
With the vision of integrating Chinese Chan tradition into the global tapestry of contemplative practices, and to foster mutual learning and cooperation among diverse Buddhist traditions, the Center for the Study of Chinese Chan (CSCC) at Dharma Drum Institute of Liberal Arts (DILA) organizing the inaugural “2026 Forum on Buddhist Meditation: Practice and Theory” in August 2026 at the Dharma Drum Mountain Los Angeles Center in California, USA.
This unique gathering aims to create an intimate and profound platform for distinguished meditation masters and leading scholars from the Tibetan, Theravada, and Chinese Chan traditions to engage in deep exchange. Discussions will focus on—but are not limited to—topics such as how various meditation systems (Huatou/Koan, Silent Illumination, Dzogchen, Mahāmudrā) relate to śamatha and vipaśyanā; the role and nature of the meditation object (nimitta, ālambana, emptiness); and how traditional practices adapt to modern contexts.
2026 佛教禪法論壇:修行與理論
為推動漢傳禪修接軌全球禪修領域,並促進不同佛教傳統間的相互學習與合作,漢傳禪學研究中心將於2026年8月在美國加州法鼓⼭洛杉磯道場,舉辦首次的「2026 佛教禪法論壇」。
此次獨特的聚會旨在為藏傳、南傳和漢傳佛教的傑出禪修⼤師和頂尖學者們,提供⼀個親密⽽深刻的對話平台,以進⾏深⼊交流。討論將聚焦(但不限於)以下內容:探討各種傳統禪修⽅法──如公案/話頭、默照、⼤圓滿(Dzogchen)、⼤⼿印(Mahāmudrā)──與佛教傳統⽌觀(śamatha-vipaśyanā)等基礎禪法的關聯;分析不同傳統中禪修所緣(如禪相、所緣境、空性等)的作用與性質;並思考傳統修⾏如何調適以應對現代修⾏者的需求。
